Hemp Granola Recipe

This is my recipe for homemade granola, it takes about 5 minutes of active time to prepare and I cook it for about 1 hour and 20 minutes at 250 degrees F. Sometimes I throw it on the baking stone I have set up on the bottom rack of the oven for a little extra crispiness. According to my bottle, hemp oil should not be heated above 330 degrees F. If you've never tried hemp oil, it's pretty tasty and lends a very rich flavor to this recipe.

Makes roughly 5 cups or 10 servings, although I just can't keep my hands out of the granola jar. This stuff is super addicting!

Prepare a large baking pan with parchment or wax paper for easiest cleanup.

2 cups dry 5 grain cereal (mix of barley, oats, triticale, flax, etc) or rolled oats
1/2 cup ground flaxseed
1/2 cup raw almonds, chopped coarsely
1/2 cup raw or dry roasted salted peanuts
1/2 cup unsweetened raw coconut
3/4 tsp cinnamon
1/4 tsp coarse sea salt
1/2 cup hemp oil
1/2 cup raw agave
1/2 cup dried fruit (cranberries, apricots, or other dried fruit of your choice)

Combine dry ingredients except fruit. Mix oil and agave together, add to dry ingredient mixture. Stir well to moisten evenly. Bake 35 minutes, stir, bake 35 minutes longer. Cool on pan, break into pieces. Stir in dried fruit. Store in the fridge in an airtight container, it will keep for at least 2 weeks, probably for 4 weeks.

I find it sad that hemp products have to be imported, since our government doesn't allow us to grow hemp in the U.S., even for food. What a shame. Hemp oil is extremely rich in Omega 3 and 6 fatty acids, and it's green...

Green is good. :)
